Tottenham Hotspur to Play Manchester United in Shanghai

Relevent Sports Group have announced the return of summer’s premier football tournament, the 2019 International Champions Cup Shanghai presented by AIA, with a pulsating match-up featuring two of England’s biggest football teams, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, taking place on Thursday, July 25 at Hongkou Football Stadium in Shanghai.

Both teams are amongst the most successful in English football and are known and beloved around the world for their exploits in the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. The clubs will be looking to field teams from star-studded playing squads.

With millions of fans in China, both teams can look forward to being well supported. After a season which has seen Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both make headlines, this will certainly be a match where everyone feels like they have something to prove.

The fixture was announced at an ICC press conference, with the represented by two top players in English football history: Teddy Sheringham,representing Tottenham Hostpur (read an interview with him here), and Dwight Yorke, representing Manchester United (read an interview with him here).

“This will be a unique and memorable occasion for every Spurs player. It’s always a huge game against Manchester United, whether you’re playing in North London or North Shanghai. I know the fans at the Hongkou Football Stadium are famous for the unique atmosphere they create in the stadium, and we’re looking forward to hearing them getting behind the team” said Tottenham Hotspur legend Teddy Sheringham.

“I was lucky enough to play for Manchester United when we visited Shanghai in 1999 right after we won the club’s first ever Treble. Manchester United and Shanghai have both changed a lot since those days, but the thrill of watching live top-class football is exactly the same. This is going to be an unforgettable game” said Manchester United Ambassador Dwight Yorke.

2019 International Champions Cup Shanghai presented by AIA will be broadcast by CCTV, reaching millions of viewers across China. With returning sponsors Budweiser, Konami and Adidas, the event will also deliver significant entertaining and commercial benefits to the city.

One of the most powerful brands in global football, Budweiser, is returning as a partner in 2019 with strong in-market activation across the city. Konami, an iconic Japanese electronic gaming company, is a long-term sponsor looking to promote the ever-popular Pro Evolution Soccer series to the footballhungry regional fanbase. Additionally, adidas will be providing the official match ball.
