Without its amazing team of ayis, MinuteCare wouldn’t be where it is today. And so, as the New Year begins, they wanted to pay them a tribute by taking the time to see life from the perspective of one of their hardworking ayis.
A Day in the Life of an Ayi: December 28 in Shanghai
This morning, it was really hard to wake up. Fridays are always hard. I’m going to Xikang Road at 7am. It’s half an hour from home by scooter and to make it even worse, it’s so cold these days! I can’t stand this weather. My hands, my feet, my face… I’m feeling so cold.
Ah, at least this customer bought the kitchen products I asked him to buy. I was finally able to clean his oven. It was so dirty before, so I really hope he will see the difference.
At 11.30am, I arrive in the neighborhood of my Xinhua Road customer. I like that street. It’s beautiful and there is this delicious Chongqing Xiaomian restaurant. My friend Wang, who’s from Chongqing, told me it’s not the authentic Chongqing taste, but I think it’s good here.
Today, I had no time to eat there because my client had guests and I had to prepare the guest bedroom. But it’s alright, he paid me for an extra hour. I’ll eat the noodles next time.
I ride for 20 minutes to my next customer, but then it began to snow. I made it right on time but all of this to end up in front of a locked door. The lady from Yongjia Road forgot to put the keys under the carpet again.
I like her a lot. She’s a pleasant woman who is always kind to me but it’s been two months and she still hasn’t copied the keys. Anyway, it’s no problem. At least I had time to get lunch, even though it was really bad noodles.
When I returned after getting a quick lunch, she opened the door for me. What a mess! So many clothes on the floor. Every time, I spend one hour tidying her place and I never have time to do a good cleaning, but I think she’s happy anyway.
Tonight, when I got home, I discovered Yangyang again hadn’t done his homework, so I scolded him because this concerns me a lot. I’m afraid if he doesn’t work well at school, he won’t have the chance to attend middle school in Shanghai. What am I going to do?
Not everything is perfect but at least this evening, while I write this, I feel joy: I got my MinuteCare training diploma. Wang and I have both succeeded. This was very motivating.
In total, there are 25 housekeepers who graduated from MinuteCare’s training program. They are the first to do it… The Pioneers. MinuteCare is proud and wishes to congratulate the graduates.
