It cannot be more obvious: Following the snowfall over the weekend, our city has officially welcomed winter, reports Shine.

On December 11, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau announced that the average temperature had been hovering around 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) for five consecutive days, which fit the meteorological definition of winter and made December 7 the first day of the season.

This year, the autumn season started on October 5 and ended on December 6. The 63-day duration is basically the same as standard length of autumn in Shanghai (62 days). Since the new millennium, the longest autumn took place in 2004 which spanned 83 days, while the shortest one happened in 2009, which merely lasted 35 days.

After an unexpectedly early snow and over a week of endless drizzling, the city finally gets away from the extreme weather. Today is mostly cloudy, and in some areas, civilians could detect a hint of warmth from the sun. That being said, Shanghai is still feeling that glacial air. Thankfully, the mercury is gradually climbing, and the highest temperature hike to over 10 degrees, before the rainy season finds its way back next Thursday. Here's a glimpse of the weather forecast for the following days:
