Although we bid farewell to Typhoon Rumbia last weekend, the downpours and wind are expected to linger. As reported by The Paper, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau activated yellow alerts for both rain and lightning at 8.33am today.

In spite of the alerts, a large number of citizens were still caught off guard this morning by the sudden showers. After leaving Metro stations, many were surprised by the 50 millimeters of precipitation, which resulted people running to their work places or seeking cover where they could.

Being the third in the four-tier alarm system, a yellow alert for rainstorm suggests that the precipitation could increase to 50 millimeters in six hours or has already reached that quantity and may continue.

According to The Weather Channel, the rain will temporarily leave Shanghai tomorrow and sunny weather is forecast for the rest of the week. That being said, these may be the last fine-weather days we see in August, as thunderstorms are predicted to arrive Sunday and last until early September.

On the bright side, the temperatures will be held at bay thanks to the upcoming downpours. The mercury will hover around 30 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit). So, as we look to welcoming September, the extremely-hot weather from the summer months may leave us once and for all.
