On March 24 at 8.30pm, Mercedes-Benz Arena joined the Oriental Pearl Tower in switching off its lights to support the World Wildlife Fund’s "Earth Hour."
WWF’s Earth Hour is a global event “urging individuals, businesses and governments worldwide to move forward the conversations and solutions we need, to build a healthy, sustainable future for all.” This year marked the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour entering China.
“We are excited to join the Earth Hour movement and unite with Mercedes-Benz Arena Green’s campaign to demonstrate a symbolic call to action to protect our planet and unwavering commitment to environmental issues," said Tony Tian, Public Affairs & Communication Manager of Coca-Cola China.
The venue’s official concessions and catering company Kofler & Kompanie, also put environmental tips on all its food and beverage outlets to call attention to support waste sorting and recyclable packaging.
“We support Mercedes-Benz Arena and its green efforts and at Kofler & Kompanie we want to do our part to make the world more sustainable," said Mario Zhang, General Manager of Kofler & Kompanie. "We do this by using biodegradable cutlery, cups, and plates and waste sorting by separating wet waste from recycled waste."
Students from Wellington International School also participated in the event.
The Earth Hour Event was held as part of Mercedes-Benz Arena Green, an initiative focused on supporting sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices through various Mercedes-Benz Arena led projects.
Earlier in the month, Mercedes-Benz Arena Green teamed up with its partner, Coca-Cola at the JJ Lin concert on March to record environmental declarations from more than 20 groups of fans who joined the call to action.
“Mercedes-Benz Arena Green has always been committed to contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development through practical actions," said Joanna Zhao, PR & Marketing Manager of Mercedes-Benz Arena. “We would like use our platform to increase the public’s awareness on sustainability and call fans to protect the environment starting from Earth Hour initiative and applying it to their daily life."
