A foreign man has reportedly died after falling near the escalators at Shanghai's popular bar and restaurant district, Found 158.

Local media report that the man was found lying unconscious by the escalators in the early hours of the morning on February 25. Medical staff later confirmed that the man had died, according to the Xinmin Evening News.

Nearby shop owners told Kankan News that they witnessed police and medical staff rushing to the scene at around 4 o'clock in the morning. The man reportedly had no vital signs by the time they had arrived.

Pictures circulating online showed shattered glass next to the escalators on the morning of the accident.

An investigation is currently underway, and police have yet to confirm the man's identity and exact cause of death. 

Kankan News reports that the man was a German expat believed to be in his 40s. 

Pictures circulating online showed shattered glass next to the escalators on the morning of the accident. Nearby vendors speculated that the man was drunk when he fell, however that is unconfirmed by police.

“I heard the man in question was drunk and had arrived at the top of the flight of stairs, before he fell onto the glass and then to the ground," one business owner told Kankan News.
