Shanghai Police Deny Russian Teen Model Died of Foul Play, Overwork

Earlier this month, Shanghai police deny that foul play or overwork led to the death of a teenage Russian model in Shanghai.

The death of 14-year-old model Vlada Dzyuba made international headlines last month, igniting controversy over China's modeling industry.

Initially reports suggested that Dzyuba had died from overwork, and later a Russian media outlet suggested she had been poisoned.

But in a statement, Shanghai police said that her autopsy report revealed no evidence of violence, and that poison tests returned negative results. Instead, they said, Dzyuba died from “severe infection in the central nervous system, purulent meningitis, and failure of multiple organs."

"A forensic examination found no violent injuries on the surface of the body, routine blood tests were negative, and no abnormalities were found," the statement said.

Dzyuba's body was returned to Russia on November 11.
