So the walkway along the Huangpu is expanding.
Speaking Pudong side, by the end of next year the eastbank boardwalk will stretch from Lujiazui's financial hub to the former World Expo spanning a total of 21.5 kilometers long.
According to the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administration, parks, public squares and art galleries are in the works for the river walk in order to 'demonstrate the city's transformation and development'. Nevermind those just being nice features to any super city.
Other add-ons include a 4.6 km stretch for joggers and those doing exercise, displays showcasing the city's culture and history and public spaces for residents and tourists to 'experience the city's lifestyle'.
Historic buildings will be preserved, such as a former shipyard, which will be turned into a water museum, as well as a coal warehouse that will become a major modern art gallery with sculptures and exhibitions outside. An ecological corridor will also be built along the river near Lujiazui and spanning the entire walk will be 20 lighthouses to 'illuminate the path and offer services such as cafes and a visitor center'.
Currently only half of the riverbank is accessible to the public, but the Pudong government says it will demolish structures like construction sites that block access to creating one continuous path.
