A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Lin Weixiang: Rewriting Beyond Reality
The Guangzhou based artist makes his Art+ Shanghai solo debut exploring “existentialist themes of the human subject and authentic expression.” Mixing acrylic painting with patterned fabric, Lin explores how individuals react to their environment and the two possible outcomes: adjust or react against. In addition, a selection of sculptures by Chongqing-based Hu Ke will be displayed.

2. Design Shanghai
In just three years, this massive exhibition devoted to design of all disciplines has swelled in size to take over Shanghai Exhibition Centre. Expect world renowned brands, design stars and over 300 exhibitors showing off the finest in contemporary, classic and collectible designs.

3. Zheng Haozhong: Lee Cha
Located on the dark side of the Bund, the ever-hip BANK kicks off 2016 with the first ever Shanghai solo exhibition by rising Shandong artist Zheng Haozhong. Li Cha transports a character from Zheng’s literary works into playful works. For more, check out our feature on Zheng Haozhong.

4. Community of Celibates
Shanghai Gallery of Art brings together 21 cutting edge artists exploring new models of sex, body and love across a variety of mediums. Participants include Chen Tianzhuo, Wu Di, Lou Shenyi, Liu Yujia and more.

5. Dunhuang: Song of Living Beings
Zendai Himalayas hosts this exhibition celebrating the artistic legacy of the Dunhuang grottoes. An important stop on the Silk Road, it was created between the 4th and 14th centuries and full of striking 1,680 meters long carvings. While these aren’t the original, this exhibition features eight replicas of the caves and other recreations of the paintings, alongside a few historical relics. Contemporary pieces will be interspersed, creating a dialogue between the ancient and modern.

6. The Digital World
Noeli welcomes back three of their favorite artists - Sebastien Osswald, *LLND and Wang Xuejun for a show celebrating digital multimedia through LED pieces and sound waves photography.
