Mar 4-5: Ladyfest Shanghai
The third annual Shanghai Ladyfest kicks off with a night of Shanghai riot grrls rocking out Yuyintang on March 4, followed by a Saturday afternoon of community dialogue and performances at Basement 6. Mar 5: The Thief of Bagdad
On the 90th anniversary of its Shanghai premiere, this swashbuckling film gets rescreened at The Pearl by Historic Shanghai and Tou JAM. The 1924 film stars the original Hollywood action star, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and the legendary Chinese-American starlet Anna May Wong. Composer Nathan Felix will perform a new original score live.

Mar 5-6: The Noise Revival Orchestra
Tou Jam is bringing the Austin acoustic-pop orchestra for a pair of Shanghai shows. They’ll have a headlining gig at Yuyintang on March 5 and will take part in the Jew Fest affiliated Punk, Reggae and More showcase at Inferno that also features hometown heroes Noukilla, PVA, Round Eye and Skinny Brown.

Mar 8: John Grant
Split Works and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s Contemporale series of concerts resumes their second season of shows with the former frontman of Denver alternative favorites The Czars. Now a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, Grant will serenade the eclectic crowd within the sublime Chamber Hall of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall. Already, the show is sold out (as is May’s Damien Rice concert) but there are a few tickets remaining for April’s Destroyer concert and June’s Lambchop show.
