A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Dalí’s Fantastic Universe
This massive Dalí exhibition has been seen by over 10 million people across 80 museums worldwide and features over 300 Dalí pieces. Major highlights include 24 large bronze statues, ‘Spellbound’ (pictured) and his ‘Mae West Lips’ sofa. However, rarer works like 10 original Tarot collages and lithographs inspired by Carmen showcase the diversity and productivity of the surrealist master. > Until Jan 10. Bund 18, tickets. See event listing.
2. Airs of the States
This group exhibition features 12 artists who revisit the rich history of traditional Chinese art to create wholly contemporary works that celebrate the evolution of the country’s art scene. For more, check out our interview with participating artist Lai Jinna.
> Until Jan 10. Shanghai Gallery of Art.
3. Theater of Paper
This group show features six Chinese contemporary artists (Ni Haifeng, Qin Feng, Qin Yufen, Qiu Deshu, Shen Chen and Lan Zhenghui) who were among the earliest in the country to experiment with conceptual or abstract art during the 1980s. Theatre of Paper explores each individual artist’s practice, providing them a personalized micro-theatre to depict their reality within the different possibilities of today’s globalized world.
> Until Jan 10. Pearl Lam Galleries.
4. 360°
The Yangpu gallery celebrates a strong year with a group exhibition featuring works by artists they feted like JR, Futura (pictured above), Zhang Dali and Erwin Olaf. For more, check out our interviews with Futura and JR.

6. Datong Dazhang
This solo retrospective pays tribute to the Shanxi Province-born artist who is considered a pioneer of performance art in China. In 2000, he infamously commited suicide as a final act of art. In a collaboration with Wen Pulin Archive, the Power Station of Art celebrates Datong's work, mixing his original manuscripts, sketches and notes with commemorative film and photography.
