The venerable live house celebrates its sixth birthday with a mixed bill of First Blood, Lost Train, Da Bei, Yumenosuke and Gushui Chejian.

Sep 30: Trace Elements
Paulo di Sabatino leads this all-star trio that includes famed drummer Jojo Mayer and six-string bass savant Christian Galvez. They perform electronic versions of Sabitino’s compositions, while still retaining that Mediterranean flavor that the pianist excels at.

Oct 1-2: Voice of China Festival
The mega-hit show has spawned a music festival, featuring some of their most beloved participants including Momo Wu. Other notable acts include Della Ding and Li Qi. Expect group performances from the singers. For more Momo, check out our feature on her super producers, Mr. Fantastic.

Oct 1-3: MIDI Electronic and Rock Festival
The Mainland festival perennial is back in Taihu for a late-summer edition of their mega-fest. There will be six different stages with five international electronic headliners – Dr Lektroluv (pictured above), Sulumi, Jozef K, Thomas Schumacher and Ralf Kollmann. There’s an additional 80 local DJs and producers including pretty much all your Shanghai favorites. There will also be rocking acts with Voodoo Kungfu performing on Oct 1, New York hardcore favorites Sick of It All on Oct 2 and Finnish metal act Children of Bodom on Oct 3. Camping is allowed in the park.

Oct 4-6 Simple Life Festival
Originating from Taiwan, this music festival packed Expo Park last year in its inaugural Shanghai edition. Now, it’s back again with Taiwanese pop star Zhang Zhen and Jolin Tsai performing live sets, plus indie-folk Mainland acts like Wu Tiao Ren on the bill. Soul singer Macy Gray has been added to the bill and will perform on October 6 at 5pm.

Oct 5: DNKL
New Noise is bringing Europe’s new electronic ambient sensation on their first China tour. Their mesmerizing dark electronic pop has been winning raves on tastemaking blogs while the group has wowed at major festivals like Rocksilde.

Power Station of Art Three Year Anniverary
The venerable state museum is celebrating their birthday with a day of performances. It’s an eclectic bill that begins with a redaing of Ulysses and includes puppet shows, performance art and an outdoor screening of Cirkus vs Cirkuse. Many of the city’s finest will also perform such as Helene Breschand’s experimental har performance, experimental electronic sets by Gooooose and MHPP, an improvised guitar performance by Wang Wenwei and a couple of world music jams.

Frozen Planet in Concert
Zhang Chengjie conducts the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra through George Fenton’s score that is paired with scenes from BBC’s landmark documentary.

CNBlue
The South Korean rockers take over Mercedes-Benz Arena to show off tunes from their new album 2gether.

Double Ponytail and Sailor Suit Party
It’s a local showcase highlighted by visual kei faves Lilith and also including Runaway Snail, Da Fresh, J-Sleeper and Poshangcun. The party will have a pigtail and sailors outfit theme.

Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa
The experimental pop musicians first teamed up on the 2013 album Savage Imagination and are reigniting that partnership with a tour of China that will feature a mix of old and new tracks.

SSO 2015-2016 Opening Concert
The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra kicks off their season with a concert featuring artist-in-residence Cehn Qigang. Violinist Kyung-Wha Chung and erhu artist Yan Jiemlin will guest.
