Praised by The Guardian as “a new master flautist,” Pahud has collaborated with leading orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He’s best known for his baroque and classical flute repertory.

Tuxedo

STD presents the Stones Throw super-duo. Grammy nominated producers Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One bridge their funk-inspired worlds for their debut disc. They’ll be performing live and DJ sets.

Tribute to Amy Winehouse concert

Sep 12: Spotlight Festival

Spotlight Festival - CNdY

After organizing last year’s indoor Electric Circus EDM Festival, City Moments introduces this new festival celebrating all the young talent in China. Expect a block-party with indoor and outdoor stages boasting a line-up of new rappers, singers and DJs. In proper festival style, the event will also feature rising fashion designers and artists, who will have a platform to share their projects. Acts include Shanghai hip hop faves Busy Gang, Modern Sky's live electronic band CNdY (pictured above) and more.

Australian trumpet player Toby Mak pulls double duty at JZ Club. On Wednesday, he explores electronic-jazz fusion with his TTechmak project with a supergroup that includes several JZ favorites. On Thursday, he leads his quartet through a night of rousing jazz.

Ron Kingston
The Australian smooth jazz soul singer takes up residency at Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel’s CC Bar. Expect to hear renditions of classics by Stevie Wonder, Sting, Michael Buble and more.

Hazel Gould
The UK singer is a Heyday favorite thanks to her mix of old school blues and soul.

While She Sleeps
Hotpot Music brings Kerrang’s British Newcomer of the Year to MAO Livehouse. Expect plenty of songs from their new disc, Brainwashed. Chaos Mind and Spill Your Guts open.

Frank Bray
The Sinatra of the Pearl returns to the intimate confines of Heyday after his stirring debut.

This multimedia concert pays tribute to the Canto-pop star with live renditions of his hits, screening  10 of his most iconic live performances.

Mandy Chan
The award-winning artist graduated from the acclaimed Xinhai Conservatory of Music and has performed all over China and Europe. She makes her much anticipated Heyday debut.

Paul Reed Smith Band 
The man behind PRS guitars leads his band through a mini-China tour.

Yishi Big Band
The Sichuan group uses folk as a base for mixing other genres like reggae, blues and local opera. Their sound features distinct instruments like the sanxian, woodwinds and traditional stringed Chinese instruments. They’re touring the nation to celebrate their fifth anniversary, while riding recent buzz to the top of the QQ folk music charts.

Fractured Movement
Dance, film and music unite for this multimedia event created by Shanghai-based artists. Video artists Margot Hamer and Tina Blakeny set a visual backdrop while Pan Daijing provides an original musical score in this contemporary dance piece. Choreographer Anneliese Charek and the Suzhou Dance Company will reinterpret their recent piece As One. Musically, the Polymorph Extra mixes galactic jazz with video projection to create ‘visual music.’ The Swatch Art Peace Hotel resident Martin Romeo will perform a multimedia piece.

Jasmine Chen and Her Jazz Men
The Leeds College of Music grad mixes Western and Chinese jazz into an enchanting package.

John Jam Session 5.0
John Nguidjol’s popular jam session takes over La Stazione every Monday. A variety of drink specials are available.

Amy Winehouse Resurrection: Tribute Party
It’s officially the weekend of Amy. The Pearl hosts Cotton Club’s resident singer Nom for a pair of tribute concerts, but if you still need to get your Winehouse kicks, head to On Stage’s Sunday afternoon celebration. The recent Winehouse documentary will be screened followed by a local artist performing several of Amy’s hits. Cosplaying as Amy Winehouse is highly encouraged with the best costume winning a ticket to this year’s JZ Festival.

Teresa Lee
