Anna, a photographer, artist, and musician, first came to China in the 80s from France. While living in Beijing, she and a group of folk musicians, including Xiao He, Xiaoli Wan, Weiwei Zhang, and Long Guo bonded over music. They parted in 2003 due to SARS, and after nearly two decades, the group has reunited and for a new folk music project “River Band”.
The Vagabond Song is partly a concert and partly a musical theatrical performance that groups together 15 of their best-known songs. In the story, set in the far future when the glaciers have melted and the rising sea has fragmented continents into islands, a young girl drifts from place to place, finally arriving at a place of tranquility — a reflection of the story of this group of musicians, who all struggled to settle with themselves and the world.
