Spa: O spa

Lymphatic drainage. It’s one of those curious phrases that pops up at TCM clinics and spas and seems to hint at something vaguely unpleasant – perhaps even painful. In fact, however, one need not fear at all, for it is a natural process by which the lymphatic system removes toxins and waste from the body.

Massage is a popular way of stimulating and bolstering this action, helping to beef up the immune system. In time for a major change in weather, the Grand Hyatt’s O spa is currently running an Autumn Golden Reviver special, with separate options for him and her. The male version includes a specially targeted massage with ylang ylang, lavender and chamomile that aids lymphatic drainage, cleaning the body out so you can start the new season with a fresh slate. As a further aspect of the indulgent therapy, a ginseng and goji berry body wrap uses two of nature’s most popular superfoods to tone and calm the body, while a scalp massage eases away any lingering tension headaches one might be experiencing. Lasting 90 minutes and costing RMB980, it gives attention to skin and muscles throughout one’s physique.

The women’s Autumn Golden Reviver (RMB880 for 90 minutes) focuses more intensely on moisturizing and skin nourishing using hyaluronic acid – again, it’s much more pleasurable than it sounds, the acid commonly applied in anti-aging treatments.

All treatments at O spa employ Aromatherapy Associates’ natural products. Within the spacious single treatment rooms, solo spa-goers can enjoy the gentle aromas of the daily scent while immersing themselves in the giant bath tubs, which look deep as a well. Wooden floors separate the treatment area from the liberating open shower’s tiles. The rooms are made to seem even larger with the addition of watercolor-adorned sliding doors, which open to reveal changing chambers and other bathroom facilities. Two couples’ suites are also available, as well as a sizable space for small groups.

Like a good bout of spring cleaning spiffs up the home, the autumn reviver gets your body spick and span once more.
