May 23: Idea Exchange

This week’s speaker, Balazs Kaplar from Hungary, was appointed the ‘Ambassador for Cultural Exchange of Guangdong Province’ for his photography work. He’s a published travel guide author and travels for a living in China. Kaplar looks for the paths less traveled to discover less clamorous and more serene visions of the expansive Chinese countryside.

He will share tips on how to smartly plan your next trip across China and how to take some great photography. He will also chat about his next trip, which you might just want to join!

May 26: Spill Your Guts South China Tour

This will be hardcore band Spill Your Guts' first performance in Guangzhou. The group, formed in Shanghai, is composed of members from all around the world and has been delivering its no-holds-barred punk sound to audiences since 2012. Supportings bands include Check Out Lychee (車旗凹荔枝) and King Gaza (蟑螂惡霸). Click here to buy tickets.

May 27: Steak Saturday at Hooley’s

Head to Hooley’s this Saturday and try their Australian rib-eye steak, which is cooked on a charcoal grill and coupled with a homemade red wine sauce or black pepper sauce. May 27: Six Appeal Vocal Band

The vital and energetic Six Appeal is an American award-winning vocal ensemble that performs everything from classic oldies to current chart toppers. Known from coast to coast for their vivid musical style and playful charm, Six Appeal won first place at the National Harmony Sweepstakes Championship in 2012. Their concert in Guangzhou will include the Lion King original score ‘Circle of Life,’ ‘Happy,’ and ‘Wagon Wheel’ by Bob Dylan, among other famous tunes.

May 28: Cycle Canton Tour in Zengcheng Countryside

Do you ever find yourself craving an adventure in China’s rural countryside but get sidetracked by the hustle and bustle of urban life? We know that battle all to well and want to help you escape Guangzhou’s CBD for a scenic cycle through the fields and historic buildings of Zengcheng District. This week, we are giving away one spot on Cycle Canton’s upcoming journey through Guangzhou’s far-flung Zengcheng region, where you will bike past fruit orchards, water buffalo and rice paddies while venturing along shady mountain roads. Highlights of the tour, which is taking place this Sunday (May 28), include a visit to a 500-year-old ancestral hall, a bamboo weaving demonstration and a lunch made with freshly harvested vegetables. The bike ride ends at the beach, where cyclers can enjoy cold drinks and a snack!

Inspired by local Cantonese cuisine, the culinary creatives at Catch restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou are introducing a new menu utilizing seasonal ingredients for an extensive selection of mains and tempting desserts. So far, diners have given thumbs-ups to the scampi carpaccio, mozzarella cheese puree, morel mushroom, basil caviar, roasted pigeon, foie gras, jasmine poached raisins and celeriac puree. Others were impressed by the fine selection of desserts, such as mango mini dome, pistachio sponge, coconut crumble and Mandarin mousse. Don’t miss out on this seasonal feast!

Ongoing: A Zen Trip Weekend Getaway
