You better watch out, you better not cry, you better get drunk, I’m telling you why, the Santa Pub Crawl is coming to town!
Now in its 13th year, the event was started by the gentlemen at the Whiskey Appreciation Society as a way to give back to the community and help holiday-deprived Guangzhou expats reconnect with their Christmas spirt.
Since its inception in 2003, the event has evolved into one of Guangzhou’s most notable non-profit events. Hell, the crawl was even featured in the Wall Street Journal a few years back!
“We organize this to give back to the community, for the expats and locals - especially those living far away from their homes – to help them get into the Christmas spirit at a special time of the year," Wallaby Ted, one of the event’s longtime organizers, told us in the lead up to last year’s event.
This year’s Santa Pub Crawl will take place on Saturday, December 3, and take attendees to a minimum of four venues via chartered buses! Like past years, the pub crawl will start at The Paddy Field Irish Bar on Huale Lu, although the rest of the itinerary is a closely guarded secret.
Tickets are on sale now and, with only 250 available, they are expected to go faster than Santa’s supernatural sleigh. Tickets are available at The Butcher Shop, The Paddy Field and the Happy Monk (Xingsheng Lu).
Tickets cost RMB200 and include your transportation between venues and all-you-can-drink alcohol, which, quite frankly, is difficult to beat. Be forewarned: if you show up without a costume you will have to pay an additional RMB100 to participate in the holiday debauchery.
Prepare your Santa garb and serve your liver warning, because December 3 is the 13th Annual Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl and we hope to see you there!
