Prepare your Santa garb and serve your liver warning, because December 5 is the 12th Annual Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl.
Started in 2003, by the gentlemen at the Whiskey Appreciation Society, this red, white and jolly pub-crawl is one of the city’s premier non-profit events.
As many expats can attest, it can be hard getting in the Christmas spirit so far from friends and family back home. This event aims to ho-ho-help you catch a bit of that holiday cheer - while drinking lots of beer - in this often cheerless city.
“We organize this to give back to the community, for the expats and locals - especially those living far away from their homes - to help them get into the Christmas spirit at a special time of the year," said Wallaby Ted, one of the event’s longtime organizers.
Last year the pub-crawl brought out an impressive 250 Santas and Santa’s helpers, which boarded five buses and visited four venues.
This year’s drunken Santa adventure, like past years, will start at The Paddy Field Irish Bar on Huale Lu. The rest of the itinerary is a closely guarded secret.
According to organizers, the Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl has gained so much attention in past years, that the event was even featured in the Wall Street Journal a few years back. We don’t care what anyone says, a Guangzhou drinking event being covered by a major American publication is highly impressive.
Tickets are on sale now and, with only 250 available, they are expected to go faster than Santa’s supernatural sleigh. Tickets are available at The Butcher Shop, The Paddy Field and the Happy Monk (Xingsheng Lu).

Cost: RMB180 in advance, RMB200 on the night of the event and RMB250 for attendees that are not in costume.
When: 6pm start, Santas leave The Paddy Field at 7.15pm
