A driver of a red Chery QQ staged a remarkable escape from police on Sunday, after being stopped at a routine checkpoint on Beijing’s West Second Ring Road. According to reports, the driver – as yet unnamed and believed to be from Heilongjiang – had just purchased the second-hand car but not registered the change in license. The incident, which took place on Tianning Bridge, on the West Second Ring Road, was captured on camera and widely circulated online.

After the collision the driver led police on an hour-long chase through Fuxingmen before eventually ditching the car in north Xinhua where he was apprehended by the heavily-armed Snow Leopard Commandos (formerly known as the "Snow Wolf Commandos”), a special forces anti-terrorist unit belonging to the Chinese People's Armed Police Corps Beijing SWAT detachment.
