'Racist' is probably the wrong term. 'Inexperienced with the nuances of racial identity' perhaps? Either way, being a non-white foreigner in China leads to some weird interactions. They're not hostile, but something about being asked "Why are you black?" isn't exactly welcoming.

'When you're eating chocolate, how do you know when to stop?'  - if we have any black readers who have actually been asked that question in China, please leave comments below: we need to know.
