WATCH: Celebs take on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

So the #icebucketchallenge has officially taken the entire planet by storm. For those of you who live under rocks and have yet to discover these viral videos of people dousing themselves head first in icy cold water, it's all about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is an incurable neurodegenerative disorder (i.e. breakdown of the motor neurons of the central nervous system leading to the wasting away of muscles and paralysis).

The idea is that when nominated you have 24 hours to respond. You either accept the challenge and prepare to chill your brain or you donate US$100 to ALS research. Simples.

Celebrities around the globe have also been participating in the watery fun, most of them getting drenched as well as donating to the charity. So far, the ALS Association has received US$15.6 million and the digits just keep bumping up. Despite the opinions of certain bucket-belittlers the challenge is a social media sensation, positively and successfully rewriting the way charities can raise awareness and money, which is pretty cool.

Recently, public figures in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China have also got involved, dishing out some of the most dancetastic, cringeworthy as well as sincere videos we have seen, and also donating cash and boosting awareness of the disease in Asia. Keep on adding that oil!
