They start so young these days...

A Chinese teen was arrested on Wednesday after kidnapping a six-year-old child and holding him for ransom in Jiangsu Province. Police arrested the teen while he was taking his victim out for some snacks.

Zhou Yang, a 17-year-old laborer from Yangzhou City kidnapped the boy with the intention of returning him pending the deposit of a RMB50,000 yuan (US$8,050) ransom into his bank account from the boy's parents.

The young victim, Pan Hao, was reportedly taken on May 1 from Jiading Shopping Mall.

Zhou, who was jobless and struggling with his finances, decided to prey on the son of a restaurant owner he knew for some quick cash. It is claimed that Zhou persuaded the young boy to enter his girlfriend’s home and give him his parent’s phone numbers. He then proceeded to call the parents demanding the sum to be transferred.

Zhou’s girlfriend returned home and was suspicious to see, well, a random child in her house.

Zhou told her that Pan was a relative’s son.

He is said to have called the boy's parents with Guo's cellphone and was told 20,000 Yuan had been paid.

Zhou asked Guo to change her SIM card, arousing her suspicions. When Zhou told her the truth, Guo asked him to release the child, but Zhou withdrew 19,500 yuan.

The pair were arrested by authorities at around 7pm when they took the boy out for dinner.

Prosecutors said Zhou was arrested for kidnapping, while Guo is regarded as innocent. Must have mad guanxi.
