On September 8, the Chinese mainland reported a significant increase in monkeypox cases for the month of August 2023.
A total of 501 new confirmed cases were reported across various regions.

It is noteworthy that a staggering 98.9% of the reported cases were male, with only five cases being female.

From January 1, 2022, to August 9, 2023, a cumulative total of 89,308 laboratory-confirmed monkeypox cases, including 152 deaths, have been reported worldwide to the WHO (World Health Organization).

As of August 9, 2023, 96.3% of cases with available data are male.
Skin and mucosal contact during sex has been the most commonly reported mode of transmission since the start of the outbreak.
Among cases where at least one symptom is reported, the most common symptom is a rash (present in 90.1% of cases), followed by fever (55.2%), and systemic rash or genital rash (54.0% and 47.6%, respectively).
