Last Tuesday, a Hong Kong woman opened fire on four of her relatives in Hong Kong's Quarry Bay Park, according to Channel NewsAsia. Two have died and two others are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Apple Daily reports that the culprit, a 44-year-old woman named Tsim Sum-kit, is suspected of being dissatisfied with her grandmother’s distribution of inheritance. After the shooting, she was arrested in a nearby market by police.

Tsim's 80-year-old aunt and 62-year-old uncle were shot in the head and died after being transported to the emergency room, police reported. The remaining two – another uncle, 72, and aunt, 60 – were injured.

According to SCMP, the weapon Tsim used may have been ordered online and ‘smuggled piece by piece’ to Hong Kong.

“I don’t think you can fool the customs authority by arriving in Hong Kong with an actual pistol or by mailing it to the city in one piece,” a police source told SCMP.

SCMP also reported that Tsim ran a security company called BodyGuard01, with a website that claimed she was the first overseas-trained female bodyguard in Hong Kong and a member of the International Bodyguard Association. Pictures of Tsim holding and posing with a gun were posted on the company's website. However, media discovered that the company lacked a license and was not registered in Hong Kong.

In addition, according to Democratic Party lawmaker James To Kun-sun, bodyguards are not allowed to hold a license for firearms unless they are transporting cash or jewelry.

Hong Kong has strict laws to limit the use of firearms. SCMP reported that possession of guns requires a license from the police commissioner, lest the owner be sent to prison for up to 14 years and fined HKD100,000.

Police officers discovered two model guns and an air gun during a search of Tsim's flat.

According to Business Insider, city leader Carrie Lam said that firearm and assault cases are very rare in Hong Kong, and that the former British colony had a relatively low crime rate of 758 cases per 100,000 people in 2017.

“We are paying great attention to this case involving a firearm hurting other citizens," she stressed.
