2 Sanitation Workers Dead After Falling in Sewer in Guangzhou

Two wastewater workers in Guangzhou have perished after falling down a drainage well yesterday afternoon, according to China Daily. A third sanitation worker was rescued from the sewer and is now 'out of danger.'

The incident unfolded in a Tianhe District construction site around 3pm. According to eyewitnesses, first responders launched an operation to rescue the three stranded workers shortly afterwards.

As of 5pm yesterday, when a Southern Daily reporter arrived on the scene, the fire department and police had blockaded some sections of road near the accident site. The well that the workers fell into had also been covered.

All three were working on sewage treatment equipment at the time of the accident. How exactly they fell into down the well is currently under investigation.
