Drunk driving gets you arrested. Driving drunk, hitting a parked car and then striking nine additional cars as you try to flee the scene – that gets you in the news. Fact.

On the evening of August 19, an intoxicated couple in Dongguan, in Guangdong province, drove into another vehicle in an outdoor parking lot.

The car was being driven by a woman surnamed Tao and the accident happened as she was making “an illegal manoeuvre,” according to the South China Morning Post. Afraid of the potential consequences of her actions, Tao asked her liquored-up lover to take the wheel and flee the scene.

The man, surnamed Li, attempted to drive away, but the owner of the car damaged by Tao grabbed onto their steering wheel in an effort to make the couple stop, according to The Paper.

In the ensuing struggle, Li lost control of the vehicle and collided with nine other parked cars, many of which – on top of the couple’s – were damaged beyond repair.

When police showed up, a breathalyzer test indicated the pair were intoxicated.

It has not been reported if anyone was injured in the debacle, but we can confirm that both Li and Tao were detained for their drunken escapade.
