Construction of the Guangzhou-Foshan-Jiangmen-Zhuhai Railway is expected to begin this October, which means we will soon have another option (apart from the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway that departs from Guangzhou South Railway Station) for traveling between cities in the Pearl River Delta.
Foshan is the hometown of legendary Kung Fu grandmaster Ip Man, while Jiangmen is a gem of Lingnan culture (think Kaiping Diaolou). Zhuhai, ranked as China’s most livable city, with tens of small islands in its jurisdiction and Macau in its immediate vicinity, is a popular destination for weekend getaways.
The rail, starting at Fangcun in Guangzhou and terminating at Zhuhai Jinwan International Airport, boasts an investment of RMB49 billion, according to a Newsgd.com report published earlier this year, and will have four stops in Foshan, five in Jiangmen and four in Zhuhai.
The intercity rail is expected to be completed by 2022.
