The largest human migration in the world, known as Chunyun (春运), started on January 13

The period begins two weeks before Spring Festival and lasts for 40 days, during which Chinese citizens head back to their hometowns to celebrate the biggest holiday of the year.

To show just how many journeys are being made, Baidu developed a website a few years back that tracks every single trip across China. The data is constantly updating, and changes are made roughly every hour.
