With the cooler weather upon us and Halloween firmly in the review mirror, there is no denying autumn has arrived!
While many of us expats from North America and European nations associate the season with falling golden leaves, Guangzhouers would be forgiven for relating autumn with purple – specifically purple flowers.
Video footage, presumably shot by a drone, was published this week that features a series of aerial shots of Guangzhou roadways lined by blooming purple bougainvilleas.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Flowers,’ it should come as no surprise that an estimated 310 roadways and bridges in Guangzhou are currently lined with bougainvilleas.
If you are anything like us, you probably have no idea what a bougainvillea is, which is okay – because thankfully being an expert on flowers is not a prerequisite for living here. According to various gardening websites, the plant is a genus of decorative vines, shrubs and trees and various sources assert there is between four and 18 distinct species within the genus.
