Go ahead and eat all you want on the Beijing subway

A ban on eating and drinking on the Beijing subway has been lifted only two months after it was put in place, Beijing News reports

Under the ban, which began on March 10, passengers could face a fine of up to 500 yuan ($80) for eating or drinking. 

While it is now technically permitted, not eating or drinking while on the subway will be "encouraged". 

A similar ban on eating/drinking on the Shanghai Metro was proposed late last year but ultimately rejected
