Upon reaching the Shilinxia Scenic Area, you'll be greeted by dramatic rock formations that characterize the ‘Stone Forest Gorge,’ aptly named for its deep, winding canyon and towering stone peaks.

The rocks are composed of marine sedimentary sandstone that date back 1.9 billion years.
In addition to the unique geological landscape, the area features dramatic cliffs, lush forests, and waterfalls cascading into crystal-clear pools.

The most popular highlight of Shilinxia is the world's largest cantilevered platform, known as the UFO Glass Observation Deck, that stretches a remarkable 32.8 meters out from the cliff face—and yes, it really does have a UFO with a little blue man in the center.

Rising majestically above the Stone Forest Gorge in Beijing's Pinggu District, the glass viewing platform is a breathtaking marvel of modern engineering that offers an unforgettable experience, giving visitors the sensation of being suspended in mid-air.
Perched 400 meters above the valley floor, the platform provides panoramic vistas of the surrounding gorge and beyond, including the Golden Sea Lake and Pan mountains.
Constructed with durable titanium alloys and high-strength cable, the platform is a testament to China’s innovative architectural design.

Visitors can choose to hike 3km or take a cable car to reach the platform. While the 2.5-hour trek is a bit strenuous, it offers a more adventurous route through the scenic gorge.
Note: Be prepared to face some steep and uneven stairs as you make the ascent.
In addition to the main trail, visitors can explore the gorge through a network of paths, experiencing the rugged terrain and natural wonders firsthand.
Depending on the season, you might have the opportunity to pick fresh fruits like peaches or hawthorns as you explore.
