The October 2018 issue of That's Beijing is out now – paper-and-ink form citywide, digital pdf form right here or in your browser here. Editor-in-Chief Valerie Osipov introduces the magazine:
As the new editor of That’s Beijing, I have some pretty big shoes to fill in the That's hall of fame. For the past six months, I've worked alongside Noelle Mateer
and Dominique Wong, the driving forces behind this magazine's success, and it
has been an incredible honor to learn from such dedicated and talented writers.
Their wholehearted devotion to each and every issue has been nothing short of
inspiring.
But hey, I'm getting emotional over here. And besides, I'm not the only new blood. Our intern, the talented Edoardo Donati Fogliazza is stepping up as Senior Editor. Together, we hope to keep bringing you the latest scoop of all the hip happenings in the city.
Which brings me to this month's cover story: With the unstoppable acceleration of technology, Adam Robbins explores the possibilities of augmented reality in China. It sounds wild, I know. But with the hype of Pokemon Go, Snapchat filters, virtual reality games (quick shout out to Raffles City for providing quality entertainment for both the players and the viewers, lol) and mind-boggling inventions like Google Glass, the seemingly far-fetched future starts to feel more within reach – maybe more than we'd like to admit.
Elsewhere in the magazine:
Edoardo interviews Philipp Grefer of the creative collective WISE;
I catch up with J-pop icon KOM_I of Wednesday Campanella before her Beijing show;
And Andrew Braun checks out new Aussie burger joint Royal Stacks.
Until next month,
Valerie Osipov
Editor-in-Chief
