Where to Celebrate the 4th of July in Beijing

America's big day is right around the corner... and we’re in China. But fear not, dear patriot. Americans and non-Americans alike are staging events more patriotic than super-size burgers and bad reality TV.

While Americans are bound to be the most zealous revelers, we like to think that any drinking holiday, any time, is fair game. So whether you grew up with the barbecues and fireworks, or you’re just looking for a good time, you can bust out your stars and stripes at any of these festivities. The fourth falls on a Tuesday this year, but there are at least a few events happening around town this weekend too.

July 1: Beijing Bikini Launch Party

In case you're looking to drink some beer during the weekend before the Tuesday holiday, this is a good one for you. On Saturday Jing-A will be throwing a launch party for their favorite summer seasonal beer, the Beijing Bikini Watermelon Wheat. It's basically the perfect crisp brew for summer. To celebrate they'll be pouring Beijing Bikini at happy hour prices (a RMB10 discount) all night long. In true American fashion there will also be a watermelon eating competition from 3-6pm.

Sat Jul 1, 3pm. Jing-A Taproom, see event listing

July 1-4: Independence Weekend @ Ramo

It's Independence Weekend at Ramo. Starting Saturday they'll be hosting four days of 4th of July events. They'll be cooking up an all-American menu all four days, including coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, strawberry shortcake and homemade hard lemonade. At night they'll also be screening classic films. The theme will be America and independence.

Sat-Tues Jul 1-4. 10am-11pm. Ramo, see event listing

Dinner @ Home Plate BBQ

Home Plate BBQ is an unofficial American Embassy, and they’re throwing a special dinner party for American Independence Day, July 4. Stevie Mac and the Mac Daddies will be playing music while the buffet serves mountains of American freedom (we mean grilled meats). There will be beer, coleslaw, ‘Texas Ranch Beans’ and a whole hog. Don’t tread.

Tues Jul 4, RMB138 per person; Tue Jul 4; Home Plate BBQ (Sanlitun), see event listing.

Quiz & Cookout @ The Local

The Local will be celebrating America’s Independence Day with a quiz at 8.30pm. Don’t worry, non-Americans are allowed to participate. In fact, last year’s winners were Finnish and British. Clearly all you Americans have your work cut out for you. Kenn and Martin will host and there will be prizes for the winners of each round as well as the first place team. There will also be an American-style cookout from 4-8pm to get you ready for the big quiz.

Tues Jul 4, 4-8pm (dinner); 8.30-10.30pm (quiz). The Local Bar & Grill, see event listing.

Centro

Centro is serving up a special all-American burger for the occasion. And they're pairing it with a Bud. Now what's more American than that? (available on July 4 only; RMB138).

Carne

Carne will have happy hour prices all night long.
