We’re all about city improvements around here. Beijing’s obsession with improving the quantity and quality of its public restrooms is just fine with us – because, let’s face it, dirty restrooms are just plain nasty. That being said, Beijing’s latest initiative to build 100 toilets that feature things like free wifi might just be a little over the top.
Either way, it appears that Beijing’s “toilet revolution” is gaining more ground. The Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment announced last week that they are planning on making further improvements to the city’s public toilet situation by adding an arsenal of fancy toilets into the mix.
These super deluxe restrooms are slated to be built in Tongzhou and Fangshan. And get this, not only will they boast free wifi but they will also have ATM machines and charging stations for cellphones and electric vehicles. Other more practical features will include ventilation, heating and air conditioning units. So it’ll never get colder than 12 degrees Celsius or hotter than 30 degrees Celsius.
Sounds good to us. But introducing these fancy features to public toilets kind of begs the question: just how long are people planning on hanging out in the restroom? Or perhaps we’d rather not know. It also makes us wonder just how long the lines for these new and improved public restrooms will be.
This might just be the best or worst idea ever.
