Tianmo Desert Base Area Description

A scenic "mini desert" located 90km away from Beijing in the Longbao Mountain area of Hebei's Huailau County that is sometimes used for film shoots. Tianmo desert has sand dunes, mountain scenery and a resevoir, where you can go sand skiing, horse riding, beach bathing and more. Tickets to enter the park are RMB20, and an additional RMB15 to reach the sand dunes.

To get there, take a train from Guanting Railway Station (官厅站) in Zhangjiakou. (See the full schedule of trains from Beijing to Guanting here). From there, you can hail a cab - it will take about an hour and a half to reach the dunes.
