An 81-year-old woman has died after a six-storey residential building in Zhenlong town in Huizhou collapsed at 6.46pm on Thursday, January 10. The woman, who was in an adjacent building, was injured by the collapse and was rushed to hospital at approximately 7.10pm. She later perished at around 10pm, according to reports by The Beijing News

Zhenlong Town People’s Government confirmed the news at 9.42pm on Weibo yesterday evening. Other residents in the adjacent building were promptly evacuated and rescue services searched the area for nine hours, trying to find any missing people. No other injuries have since been reported.

Construction of the collapsed building had only recently been completed. In January of 2018 work began on the 50-square-meter residential block, and the project was finished in December of 2018. The building was reportedly housing made for farmers and was empty when it collapsed.

No cause for the collapse has yet been found. “We are still investigating the cause and will give an update when we have enough information,” police in Zhenlong town told That’s.
