Images and videos of the incident have been circulating on various social media platforms, showing the rescue efforts taking place amidst heavy snowfall outside the building where the roof collapsed.

According to local residents and reports from the area, the sports center, often referred to as a gymnasium, encompasses various sports facilities, including basketball and badminton courts.

It is a sizeable sports complex that requires an entrance fee, typically RMB10 per hour.

Wang, a resident, expressed that the gymnasium was continuously bustling with sports enthusiasts,

"This gymnasium always had people engaged in sports activities."

At the time of the collapse, there were a total of seven middle school students inside the sports center.

Following the incident, three managed to escape on their own, and among these, two students were unharmed, while the third was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Four students were trapped within the collapsed area, taken out one by one, but tragically, three of them could not be revived despite the hospital's best efforts.

It's worth noting that this disaster occurred just a few months after another tragic incident on July 23, 2023, when 11 individuals lost their lives due to a roof collapse at the No. 34 Middle School in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province.
