Frequent fliers from Shenzhen Airport – this one is for you! This June, you will finally be able to take the subway straight to the airport – no luggage-ridden bus ride required.

Metro Line 11 (also known as the Airport Express) is currently undergoing signal system tests and is expected to start operations in June, Shenzhen Daily reports. The new line will make a trip from the Futian CBD to the airport a reasonable 29 minutes, according to the article. Hong Kong airport finally has a strong mainland competitor, a rival whom may now steal those travelers looking to avoid long border crossing queues and pricy ferry tickets.

The line will be 51.94 kilometers long and run through Futian, Nanshan and Bao’an districts. In addition to being the long-awaited direct line to the new airport, it will also be the first metro line in the city to run at the maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The line is comprised of 38.3 kilometers of rail built on elevated bridges and 14 underground stations. According to the head of city’s rail construction, Zhao Penglin, two of the eight compartments on each train running on Line 11 will be dedicated to passengers with luggage.

On Thursday, 500 residents were invited to take an hour-and-a-half maiden ride on the new metro line. Those who did not make the 500 will have to wait till June to feel the speed.
