The NBA Global Games return to Shanghai featuring a rivalry between the Kevin Garnett-led Brooklyn Nets and the rising Sacramento Kings. We chat with the Kings’ sophomore forward Ben McLemore about his hopes for the upcoming season.

How has your trip been?
It’s been a great experience so far. We had a meet-and-greet with the fans yesterday, which was pretty cool, but the rain messed things up a bit, so we couldn’t really interact with the fans as much as we wanted. But at the end of the day, I’m happy to be here and looking forward to coming back in October to play in the Global Games against the Brooklyn Nets. I heard that Carmelo Anthony scored 45 points a couple years ago when he was here. If I have the chance to break that, I would love to do it, but we will see.

You just finished your rookie season. How was it?
I had some ups and downs, which every player goes through, and some good games and bad games. You just have to keep that mindset of going out there and having fun while playing your game. That’s what I did and I finished the season off strongly.

What initiations did you have to go through as a rookie?
Me and my boy Ray (McCallum) had to wear pink Hello Kitty backpacks and get popcorn for everyone.

What advice would you give to this year’s rookies?
Time management. It’s a long season with 82 games, and even more if you’re on a playoff team. Also just pay attention and listen to what the vets and coaches are saying and learn from that. It will definitely help in the long run.

What was the hardest adjustment?
Learning the game. Everything is so fast when you come to the NBA and you just have to adjust to it.

Was it hard to go from a 35-second shot clock to a 24-second shot clock?
Definitely. It’s so fast. As soon as you get the ball, you have to get past half-court in eight seconds and right into the play. If the first option isn’t there, there are times you realize you have just five seconds left. That’s one adjustment that rookies get to look forward to.

How’s the summer been?
It’s been great. I’ve been working all around on my game and getting better as a player. I feel like I can definitely have an impact next year for the Kings and be a guy they can also call for in crunch situations.

How are the Kings going to do?
I think we’re going to do well. We have Rudy Gay coming back and DeMarcus Cousin, who has played a big role for us throughout his career. I think it’s the year we push, get over that hump, fight for that spot to get into the playoffs and bring the Sacramento Kings back.

DeMarcus is a polarizing guy. What’s he like?
He’s a great guy. I love playing with him. He’s a fan favorite and his game speaks for itself. Some people say he’s not a leader, but I think he’s getting better at stuff like that. As players, we can also help him be a better player and leader for our team and he’s going to be a big part of the Sacramento Kings for years.

What are your predictions for the year. Who do you think will be MVP?
I would definitely love to be MVP. That would mean that I’m playing well and our team’s playing well.

Good answer. Who do you think will be MVP, not counting yourself?
It’s tough. Kevin Durant, LeBron and Carmelo are going to be contenders.

Were you surprised that LeBron left Miami to go to Cleveland?
No. Who wouldn’t want to go back home and have that opportunity to win and be with their family?

Who do you think will be in the finals?
I hate to say it, but San Antonio and Cleveland. It is what it is.

Were you surprised by how hot the Spurs got in the finals?
Not at all. I was on the bench watching them play and thought “Wow.” The way they move the ball, help each other get open and give up good shots for a better shot, that’s the way you play ball.
