The new kid on the block of this increasingly glitzy district is the Jing’an Kerry Centre, which is about to set off a storm of openings.
Taking a pretty central position in the area, with Plaza 66 and Citic Square to the east and Jing’an Temple to the west, this new complex is a sleek, airy, shimmering architectural ensemble of retail spaces, offices and residences. No doubt, a genuinely impressive new design landmark in the city.
The development technically opened in July, with the Shangri-La Jing’an (attached to it) starting business at the end of June. But when we went to check it out near the end of the month, most shops were still closed, with plans afoot for a bigger opening in September/October. We’re talking Burberry, Michael Kors, Karl Lagerfeld and the likes – so really, really big.
Alongside a hip new bookstore, Ole supermarket, home goods shop Life by city super and a large-scale cinema called Premiere, plenty of new restaurants are also in the pipeline. Those include Vintage Element Fresh, Shangainese/ Cantonese venture Vale, Din Tai Fung and a new concept by the Sun Flour people. Oh, and did we mention Abercrombie & Fitch are bringing their half naked staff and preppy clothes to the Pearl of the Orient? Watch this space in the magazine, there’s more info to come next month.
