'Trendy Thai' Thai Festival 2024 in Shanghai Opens

On the afternoon of May 10th, the opening ceremony of the Thai Festival in Shanghai 2024 "Trendy Thai" was held at the Super Brand Mall Shanghai. This event is presented jointly by Royal Thai Consulate General in Shanghai and CP Group, and has received strong support from Team Thailand in Shanghai, Shanghai Government and related agencies as well as Thai and Chinese private sectors. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Consul General of Royal Thai Consulate General in Shanghai, delivered opening remarks at the opening ceremony, thus kicking off a three-day series of exciting activities.

Thai Festival in Shanghai is the largest annual Thai cultural event in Shanghai, and this year's theme is "Trendy Thai." The festival began with the opening ceremony on May 10th from 15:00 to 20:00, and will continue on the 11th and 12th from 10:00 to 20:00. The festival is open to all friends who love Thai culture at no charge, offering the free experience of Thai charm.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Prinat Apirat, Consul General expressed deepest appreciation to the Shanghai Municipal Government and relevant departments, CP Group, the earliest Thai company to enter the Chinese market in the 1970s, the official Thai institutions in Shanghai, Thai and Chinese enterprises, as well as the Thai citizens, students, and media who have actively supported the Thai Festival from the beginning. She specially thanked everyone for their consistent support, which, along with their efforts, made this event possible and has jointly enhanced the profound friendship between Thailand and Shanghai.

Ms. Prinat Apirat, Consul General addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the festival transcends the realm of a conventional event, serving as a cultural bridge fostering mutual understanding, appreciation, and friendship between the peoples of Thailand and China.

Subsequently, Mr. Zhu Weimin, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, and Mr. Lo Jia-shun, Senior Executive Deputy Chairman of CP Group, also addressed the audience with their respective speeches.

The opening ceremony was marked by an innovative and contemporary Thai dance performance "Amazing Thailand," heralding the commencement of the "Trendy Thai" experience. This was succeeded by a thrilling Muay Thai demonstration from professional Muay Thai gyms based in Shanghai, Huanhuan Thai Boxing, which captivated the audience.

With the joint presence on stage of Ms. Prinat Apirat, Mr. Lo Jia-shun, Mr. Zhang Guohua Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission l, and Mr. Zhu Weimin, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, the Thai Festival in Shanghai 2024 "Trendy Thai" was officially activated, marking the beginning of a three-day celebration of Thai culture in Shanghai.

The theme of this festival, "Trendy Thai," embodies the fusion of tradition and modernity, showcasing Thailand's ability to maintain its unique heritage while staying ahead of global trends. The event offers a comprehensive perspective on Thai culture through various lenses such as cuisine, entertainment, sports, leisure experiences, fashion and crafts, and tourism services, fully demonstrating the allure and influence of Thai culture.

The festival brings together around 10 Thai restaurants in Shanghai, creating a feast of classic Thai flavors, as well as a variety of fruits, including direct-from-Thailand durians, and internet-famous snacks. In addition, visitors can encounter high-quality Thai fashion products, experience traditional Thai massage and handcrafts, and try on traditional Thai attire. These experiences are essential highlights of a trip to Thailand and are an integral part of the "Trendy Thai" concept. Moreover, this year's event features a new addition with the CP Group's "Trendy Thai Urban Film Month" booth, promoting seven upcoming Thai films.

Simultaneously, the Thailand Creative Economy Agency (CEA) joins the Shanghai Thai Festival for the first time, inviting five Thai creative design brands to showcase their products in Shanghai, bringing with them items that embody the contemporary Thai spirit and creativity.

In her speech, Ms. Prinat Apirat, Consul General extended an invitation, "I would like to encourage all of you to continue your cultural exploration and discovery journey, taking advantage of the visa-free policy between China and Thailand to visit Thailand and immerse yourselves in the kaleidoscope of scenes, flavors, sounds, and aromas that are globally adored."

As an event that connects the cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, participants at Super Brand Mall not only get to appreciate the rich traditions of Thailand but also discover its vibrant and evolving essence. Through the three-day spectacle of the Shanghai Thai Festival, attendees can deeply experience the spirit of innovation, creativity, and diversity of Thailand and Shanghai.
