BISS Puxi Students Explore International Film Cultures in IB Film

BISS-Puxi-1.jpg

For an early class project, the BISS Puxi Year 12 Higher Level Film students have been tasked with creating a presentation to the class about a film from their 'home' country.

They are now underway researching key films, filmmakers and innovations and will deliver this as a short lecture to the rest of the group. They will also show an extract from a film that has personal significance to them.

This project works well as an introduction to BISS Puxi’s wide-ranging IB Film courses, as it demonstrates the breadth of global film, lets students find out more about their own cultures, and makes great use of their international community to help students learn from each other.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing the students’ presentations in the coming weeks.

Dulwich-Puxi-web.jpg

This summer witnessed an extraordinary transformation as the Dulwich Puxi campus evolved into the new Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi.

The expansion introduces more performing arts rooms, multiple music spaces, and a new black box theater.

Outdoors, new spaces encompass exercise areas, adaptable courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball, along with vibrant allotments and greenhouses.

The main restaurant has undergone meticulous redesign, offering a premium dining experience.

With the Senior School (Years 7 to 13) growing by approximately 50%, the campus now boasts 30 new classrooms, offices, and advanced learning areas, including fully equipped science labs.

The two-story Senior School library is thoughtfully designed to cater to the growing student body.

As Senior School students transition to their tailor-made facility, fresh spaces are allocated to DUCKS (Toddler to Year 2) and Junior School (Years 3 to 6), fostering growth and enriched learning.

Notably, the Junior School library has more than doubled in size and added more dedicated spaces for edtech and computer science.

The Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi team continues its mission to create learning environments where students develop the knowledge, skills, and motivations to have a positive impact on society and the planet.

August 30, 2023, German School Shanghai Hongqiao, the first school day of the 2023-2024 school year

It has become a tradition at the German School Shanghai that kindergarten children and students are welcomed back to school with lion dances after the summer break.

The finishing touch of painting the eyes of the lions awakens them. Both principals were honored to “press the button” to allow the start of the uplifting gongs and drums.

August 30, 2023, German School Shanghai Yangpu, the first school day of the 2023-2024 school year

Over one thousand children enrolled on the two campuses in Hongqiao and Yangpu – from toddlers to high schoolers – enjoyed the witty performance of the lion dancers. So, a blissful new school day started!

The well-known Chinese couplet “Hǎo hǎo xué xí, tiān tiān xiàng shàng,” meaning “Study hard and improve every day,” was unfolded in the end of the performance. With good intention, the message shall be well received.

With the positive outcome of the previous year, the German as a Foreign Language (DaF) program continues for kindergarten children to fourth graders with no or low German language proficiency, and may now also be offered to fifth and sixth graders with limited German knowledge*.

It enables children with no or limited German knowledge to integrate into the German education system. More inter-school exchanges have been also put on the agenda – let’s look forward!

*Prerequisite: Language level proven by language proficiency test
