Although in recent years we have seen a positive improvement and greater awareness around the unique challenges that women face in today’s world, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Statistics show that amongst many other social, mental and physical health challenges, women are more likely to be diagnosed with particular diseases or disorders including depression, anxiety and other stress related conditions.

When it comes to cancer, being a woman alone is the greatest risk factor for developing breast cancer, a disease which affects so many of our sisters, daughters, mothers, colleagues and friends worldwide. And a topic that we should all develop greater awareness around.

According to the new International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), female breast cancer has become the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the world, with 2.3 million cases diagnosed in 2020, surpassing lung cancer for the first time. Breast cancer now accounts for 11.7% of all new cancer cases in both sexes, overtaking lung cancer in terms of number of new cancer cases worldwide.

While October is recognized as 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month,' it is a time annually devoted to raise awareness for breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection. Many medical organizations have also initiated various campaigns to focus on women’s healthcare education.
