PepsiCo Recycling, the PepsiCo’s sustainability initiative and a unique eco-friendly journey embraced a new milestone – two PET bottle recycling machines were recently officially rolled out at Shanghai Disney Resort, which creates a unique immersive eco-friendly journey for consumers in a fantastic world filled with happiness.
Every time consumers put used plastic bottles into the machines, they actually help plastics to be reborn. Together with the Shanghai Disney Resort, PepsiCo hopes to raise awareness of sustainability among consumers, including young people, by encouraging them to lead a sustainable lifestyle and create a world where packaging never becomes waste.
As early as 2014, PepsiCo and Shanghai Disney Resort reached a multi-year strategic resort alliance agreement, and Pepsi became one of the main beverage suppliers in Shanghai Disney Resort. This time, through PepsiCo Recycling, the two parties have further deepened cooperation, helped the younger generation to establish environmental awareness, and further strengthened the sustainable development vision.

PepsiCo has long been exploring and tapping into the potential of plastic, aiming to build a world where packaging never becomes waste. In 2020, PepsiCo launched PepsiCo Recycling, a long-term sustainability program, to team up with partners and consumers to put sustainable living into practice.
Shanghai Disney Resort is also committed to promoting environmental protection and awareness within the local community, encouraging everyone to take small steps that can lead to a positive impact on our planet, through fun and engaging activities. With this shared vision, Shanghai Disney Resort and PepsiCo hit it off and decided to roll out the cooperation.
Unifying knowledge and action, PepsiCo Recycling has creatively expanded its presence both online and offline. Providing the tools and information to recycle more and recycle better, PepsiCo will repurpose used plastic bottles into fashion items using nine professional processes, including screening and sorting, polyester slicing and fabric regeneration.
PepsiCo will also be offering virtual credit points on a WeChat Mini Program as a reward for packaging recycling: For every drop-off, consumers will earn Safeguard Point on PepsiCo Recycling’s WeChat Mini Program, which can be used to redeem products made of recycled plastic by PepsiCo. In addition, the Mini Program also features content communities for sharing knowledge about sustainability.
Designed by Shanghai Disney Resort, the two PET bottle recycling machines installed this time are located in the two theme land of "Gardens of Imagination" and "Tomorrowland" in Shanghai Disney Resort. The exterior design is integrated with the two lands’ own unique elements to create an immersive recycling and environmental protection experience for the guests.
The PET bottle recycling machine in Gardens of Imagination is adorned with twinkling stars and characterized by a warm orange, yellow and red color in design, echoing the Enchanted Storybook Castle behind. The PET bottle recycling machine at Tomorrowland adopts a high-tech and futuristic design echoing the atmosphere of the land. Featuring a simple structure in metallic gloss, the PET bottle recycling machine displays the silhouettes of plastic bottles to highlight its function. There is an electronic screen and a cutting hole for bottles on the front of each PET bottle recycling machine, consumers only need to put the plastic bottles in the hole for them to be recycled.
Through the recycling partnership with Shanghai Disney Resort, Pepsi hopes to promote better understanding of sustainability among young people in a fun and entertaining way. Prior to the collaboration with Shanghai Disney Resort, PepsiCo has been dedicated to connecting with young people, from Shanghai Fashion Week, an important date on the fashion calendar, to Subway, one of the world's largest restaurant chain, and the retail giant Yonghui, to Pepsi’s own premier event, the Voice of Pepsi, all of which have underscored the fun and fresh sides of sustainability, successfully attracting many young people to take notice of sustainable living and join sustainable actions.
