Jiahui Breast Institute, as a part of Jiahui International Hospital, is excited to announce that, starting on June 1, 2021, they will begin providing breast health outpatient services, including Breast Health Screening.
The breast health outpatient services will be available every Wednesday between 1-6pm at Jiahui Health Jing'an Clinic, led by Dr. Tibor Kovacs, Medical Director of the Breast Health Program, an honorary professor of Fudan University Cancer Hospital. At Guy's Hospital, he has developed a novel reconstructive techique, known as the pre-pectoral implant reconstruction, that leads to less side effects, quick recovery time and improved aesthetic results. Dr. Kovacs also held the position of President of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) from 2018-2020, as well as Chair and Founder of the ESSO Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Course and faculty of several prestigious International Breast Surgery masterclasses and workshops.
Our Experience
We visited Jiahui Health Jing'an Clinic to experience the breast exam first-hand and couldn't recommend it more. The process, from check-in to consultation with the doctor to ultrasound to final debriefing with the doctor is streamlined, efficient and friendly. Bonus, all of the doctors speak fluent English.
Meeting with the physician first helps to provide patients with background information on what to expect during the ultrasound or mammogram. During the ultrasound, the ultrasound technician guided us through the experience, explaining along the way what the ultrasound images on the TV screen meant. Finally, we received a detailed explanation of the report findings from the doctor and, luckily, a clean bill of health. The whole appointment took under 45 minutes, and we felt extremely comfortable throughought.
We experienced a breast health screening package service. This package includes a breast specialist consultation and physical examination, bilateral automatic breast ultrasound scan (ultrasound) or breast mammography, an imaging report and interpretation of results by a breast specialist.
What is Breast Screening?
Regular breast screening is the first line of defense when it comes to early detection of breast lesions and breast cancer. Regular breast examinations – self-examination, clinical examination by a breast specialist and breast imaging examination (breast ultrasound or mammography) – form the foundation of early detection.
Equipped with digital mammography and automatic breast ultrasound scan, Jiahui Breast Institute provides breast screening services for women of all ages and backgrounds.
Who Needs Breast Screening?
Any woman over the age of 20 should consider beginning breast screening to detect infections, benign and malignant tumors and nipple abnormalities. Jiahui Health suggests that a routine ultrasound or mammography should be done every two years, or according to a physician’s recommendation.
The following risk factors can contribute to breast cancer, requiring more routine breast screening: increasing age, high weight and high body fat (BMI>30), tall stature, high estrogen levels, increasing age at first pregnancy, personal and/or family history of breast cancer, dense breast tissue, earlier menarche or later menopause, alcohol consumption and smoking.

It is recommended that women avoid scheduling an examination during or within one week before menstruation, as changes in breast density during this time can affect the results of screening. Breastfeeding women are advised to perform screening six months after they stop lactating.
