Thursday, September 19 is the soft opening of Spread the Bagel's second Shanghai location on Donghu Lu. With the surprise closure of their Nanchang Lu store, 2018 was a tumultuous year for the company. Happily, two openings in 2019 show that you can't keep a good bagel down. The first was a collab with Cinnaswirl on Yuyuan Dong lu.
The upcoming grand opening of the late-night ‘Beer Bagelry’ sees the engagement of the two brands realized at a wedding party sealing bagels and beer in eternal bliss. The opening night special continues until September 21 with a late-night bagel slider plus Brew Bear beer for RMB50.

The bagel brand’s newest partner is known for smooth and robust beers from Russel Brewery in Canada. The Mountains and Rivers series White Ape (American Wheat), has a slight acidity ideal for pairing with a classic melt-in-your-mouth grilled cheese or the ever-popular bacon, egg and cheddar bagelwiches. Although the Yayu IPA, brewed in Shanghai, also sounds like it will hit the spot with a hint of tropical citrus offsetting its bite. Heck, the Hazy IPA, Strawberry Hibiscus Ale and Coffee Porter also sound great. Good thing happy hour runs from 5-8pm daily with brews priced between RMB20-55, so we can try them all.
The Donghu Lu Brew Bear x Spread the Bagel will be soft open from 6pm-2am until October when they start daytime operations from 8am. Finally, carb-filled goodness that meets the needs of those on their morning commutes as well as the walk-of-shamers! If you time your night just right, you can order a Shanghai Bloody Mary while you wait for a Didi.
