Comedian Greg Fleet on His Sociopathic Father Faking His Death

By Ned Kelly, August 1, 2018

A legendary Australian stand-up comedian who knows no boundaries, Greg Fleet will be hitting Shanghai on Friday (tickets are on sale now) and Dongguan on Saturday (tickets are on sale now). Seriously, nothing’s off limits. Expect everything from deeply personal confessions to scathing political satire to laugh-out-loud musings. We asked him for some of those musings ahead of the show...

My father faked his own death, changed his name, married another woman and fathered another child. I used the experience for material in my show. It was cathartic. He was a sociopath!

Do I feel bad about killing Daphne on Neighbours? If you are going to be in a show as bad as Neighbours, you should kill one of the main characters.

The National Institute of Dramatic Art kicked me out because I was lazy. Oh, and the drug use...

Like most Australians I'm an immigrant, only I emigrated to the USA. I don't like the stereotype of the Aussie yob.

I support Hibernian Football Club because the first time I did the Edinburgh Festival my boss bullied me into supporting them. And I like how they struggle.

My comedy heroes? Bill Hicks and Stewart Lee.

I've toured the world. Jokes occasionally get lost in cultural translation. But not much.

I never realized I wanted to be a comedian. I kind of fell into it.
