Jun 26-30: TNT Theatre Britain: Notre-Dame de Paris

The UK's TNT Theatre brings their stage adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic Gothic romance to Shanghai. Set in Paris in the late Middle Ages, the novel (which is better known to some by its English name, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), tells the ill-fated love story of Esmeralda and the hunchback Quasimodo. See it live at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Jun 28: Unravel: This is Me

The latest Unravel is a celebration of identity, with stories of compassion, acceptance, visibility and representation. The storytelling platform is collaborating with ShanghaiPRIDE, Stone Brewing and LesQueers, a newly launched social media app for queer women, for the event. Ticket price includes a drink.

Jun 28: Evil Needle

French-German DJ Evil Needle is a prolific beatmaker whose style emcompasses house, future beats, RnB, trap and boom bap, and has collaborated with everyone from Mr. Carmack to Troyboi. Catch his Shanghai show at Le Baron.

Jun 29: John Acquaviva

Bar Rouge hosts John Acquaviva, a longtime DJ who got his start in Detroit alongside Richie Hawtin. The two then founded influential techno label Plus 8 Records, and Acquaviva went on to release a slew of hit tracks. Catch is latest Shanghai show at the Bundside club.

Jun 29: Shade Seoul

Shade Seoul is a collective of DJs and drag performers who run a forward-thinking LGBTQ+ club night. After a banging debut at Dada earlier this year, Shade co-founder Ligyre brings his mix of Afrobeats, ballroom and experimental world rhythms back to Shanghai alongside fellow Seoul DJs Seesea and Net Gala, plus drag queens Charlotte Goodenough and Nana. Shanghai's Michael Cignarale, Amber Akilla and DJ Toy provide support.

Jun 29: Pulsation Villa Pool Party

Escape Shanghai's summer heat with the 'Villa Edition' of this pool party from Freelance Lovers. Expect beats from Shanghai DJs S.Kiv, Clef G, TYS, Tommy Hendrix, Guilamonsters and Tom Price, plus live percussion from Thomas Dyani, pizza from Zozzo's, drinks from DrinKuaidi and beer from Viola. Korean DJ duo C'est Qui, are shaking up the club scene in their home city of Seoul (and the electronic music world's male-dominated status quo), hosting monthly parties, debuting on Boiler Room and generally showcasing their penchant for jackin' house and disco. Catch their Shanghai debut from China Social Club at Arkham with support from Shanghai DJs Frau, PCJ & Michael Cignarale.

Jun 30: Techno Train: Aida

Russian-born, Beijing-based DJ Aida starting mixing in 2010 and has been blending groovy techno with precise and intelligent beats every since. She's played China music festivals like INTRO and YinYang, and is a co-founder of techNOrules, a label focused on female talent. Catch her show at Celia with Lina K on support.

Jul 1: Alter. Rooftop Party Season Finale ft. Tom Trago

New party company Alter. round out a cracking first season of events with their final daytime rooftop dance party of the season. Headlining is Amsterdam producer Tom Trago, who deals in groove-focused house and disco and dropped his fourth full-length album, Bergen, earlier this year. China Social Club, Allen Marshall and DJ Lucy spin in support.

Jul 1: Wild Children

Wild Children is a Lanzhou folk band that's been active over two decades and has a storied history. After losing their founder Suo Wenjun to cancer in 2004, Wild Children have since returned from a hiatus and have released their latest album. Catch the celebrated band at Bandai Namco.
