Shanghaiist is Back and Launching a Crowdfunding Campaign

Earlier this month, Shanghaiist's website abruptly went offline after the billionaire owner of the DNAinfo and Gothamist networks shut the entire portfolio of sites down.

But rumors of its demise appear to have been greatly exaggerated, with the popular China blog's team announcing their return in a statement published late Tuesday evening.

Noting their independence from DNAinfo and Gothamist, the post clarified that Shanghaiist was not involved in the union vote said to be what led CEO Joe Ricketts to close the sites down.

They're also launching a crowdfunding campaign in the coming days to support their work, with details forthcoming.

Welcome back, Shanghaiist! We're glad to have you back.
