Several areas of downtown Shanghai are expected to see roads blocked off to traffic this Golden Week holiday starting from 3.30pm today (September 30) and kept in place up until 10.30pm on Wednesday (October 4).

These temporary restrictions will affect those traveling by automobile, bike and e-bike, with different rules applying to different vehicles in Pudong and Puxi.

The streets in question that will experience closures over this period are Huaihai Lu, Chengdu Lu, Beijing Xi Lu, Tiantong Lu, Qufu Lu, Xizang Lu, Renmin Lu and Lujiazuihuan Lu. For a more visual overview, please refer to the map below (via Shanghai Daily):

In Pudong, motorists will find a lack of access affecting the area encircling the Huangpu River, while in Puxi formal restrictions will be applied to an area encircling the Bund. Different restrictions will affect those hacking about on bikes and e-bikes, with Renmin Lu, Zhongshan Dong Lu, Henan Lu and Nansuzhou Lu being the streets subject to the closure of non-motor vehicles.

Other forms of public transport are not entirely exempt from these closures. Sunday to Wednesday will see East Nanjing Metro Station closed to commuters on both Lines 2 and 10 from 3.30-11.30pm, while the Huangpu Sightseeing Tunnel also be forced to close. Also affected is the Dongjing ferry traveling its east to west route.
